Aromatherapy Diffusers... So Many Choices!

The best essential oil diffuser is the one that that suits the needs of you and your family and your environment the best.

Electric Ultrasonic Diffuser: In the water bowl of these diffusers, there is a small metal disc that vibrates by “ultrasonic frequencies,” which break up the essential oil and water into tiny particles, which form a fine, cool mist, that is dispersed into the air fairly quickly.

It is also important not to run your ultra sonic diffuser for long periods of time because you may be exposing yourself to too much essential oil. (You are still getting the effects. even though you’ve gotten used to the scent and you can’t smell it anymore.) Author Robert Tisserand (2014) says, “Don’t diffuse for long periods of time, 30 – 60 minutes is good, or 30 minutes on and 60 minutes off”. Check the timer setting on your diffuser to find the best one for you and your environment.

***If you live in in a humid area, an ultrasonic diffuser may not be your best choice. The last thing that you want to do is add more humidity into your space.

-If you have small children in your home, diffuse age-appropriate essential oils to use in your diffuser & adjust the time, 15 – 30 min depending on the age and health of your child.

Tea light candle diffuser: uses water & essential oils; gives off scent & ambiance, but it doesn’t cover a large space. It is best to find one that has a large enough bowl. You don’t want to have to keep refilling the bowl with water or have it run dry. ***Never leave a candle unattended

Plug- in Diffusers for the Home or the Car: are a good way to try diffusing essential oils. In the home, they work well in small areas like bathrooms or hallways. These diffusers use disposable pads that will need to be changed periodically or when you want to change scents. There is also car diffusers that plug into the lighter in your car.

I personally prefer to diffuse essential oils for about 20 – 30 min, 2 times throughout the day . This way I can use an uplifting blend in the morning, and a more relaxing blend later in the day to help me unwind…
