What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the results of the steam distillation, the cold expression or in some cases, solvent extraction of different types of plant material.(Which includes flowers, leaves, roots, bark, citrus fruit rind, grasses & resins.) Simply put, it’s what’s left after the process; small amounts of highly concentrated therapeutic goodness, that are very versatile, with many different properties.
What are Carrier Oils?
Carrier oils are vegetable oils that are defined as lipids & are largely composed of fatty acids. They derived from the fatty part of plants like the kernels, nuts or seeds. They have different properties, purposes & absorption rates. Diluting your essential oils with a carrier oil will help prevent any irritation, redness or sensitization to your skin. If you have sensitive skin, then you will know that choosing the right carrier oil is just as important as choosing your essential oils. (Diluting your essential oils with an unscented natural lotion also would work).
What are the contraindications for Aromatherapy?
Essential Oils are highly concentrated substances that should be used carefully. Even the most beneficial oils can be harmful under certain conditions. Inappropriate use of essential oils may lead to adverse side effects. Check with your healthcare provider & aromatherapist if you take medication, are pregnant or have an irregular heartbeat or a seizure disorder. Also, use caution when blending essential oils for children and the elderly.
How can you use Essential Oils?
Essential oils can be used for diffusing, inhalation or applied onto the skin for topical use. And because essential oils are so concentrated, they should always be diluted before topical use. With essential oils, less is always more.
How safe is inhalation?
According to author & aromatherapist, Robert Tisserand ” (inhalation) from a safety standpoint presents a very low risk to most people”.
How effective are Essential Oils when used Topically?
When used topically, properly diluted essential oils are very effective. The body will absorb small amounts (Approx 10%) of the essential oils into the bloodstream when these aromatherapy products are applied to the skin, but you also get the benefit of inhalation when you breathe in the fragrant scents from applying these products.
What about Ingesting Essential Oils?
I DON'T recommend ingesting essential oils!!! They are highly concentrated natural chemical substances that may irritate or harm your mouth, esophagus, and stomach.

How do I Store my Essential Oils?
I store my essential oils in their own fridge. (Citrus and Conifer essential oils go off the fastest, so storing them in a fridge keeps them fresher, longer). If you only have a few essential oils or blends, keep them in a cool, dark, space. I don't recommend storing them in a hot, steamy bathroom or keeping them in a hot car.
Are your Essential Oils organic?
The majority of my essential oils are certified organic or wild-sourced from reputable suppliers. Some come from small family farms. These family businesses don't always have the financial means to have their products certified. I also do my own testing. When I make blends, I test them on myself to see how they make me feel and react on my skin. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I am my own best test subject. I also rely on the scent!!!
What kind of Packaging do you use?
My essential oils, blends and room sprays are packaged in amber glass bottles. The amber coloured bottles may offer some UV protection to light sensitive essential oils. These bottles can be cleaned, sterilized and reused if you choose or they can be recycled. My personal inhalers are made of plastic. Any special order products are packaged in glass containers.
